Juventus and Ghana midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah won’t play any part in the UEFA Champions League final following his return to full fitness.

Asamoah’s Juventus progressed to the Champions League final after a 3-2 aggregate victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

The Ghanaian returned to training on Sunday after recovering for a knee surgery which has kept him on the sidelines since November.

With no scheduled date for Asamoah’s return to full fitness, Juventus omitted the Ghanaian from their UEFA Champions League knockout stage squad list submitted to the competition’s governing body. This therefore makes the Ghanaian ineligible for selection on June 6th when Juventus face Barcelona who triumphed over Bayern Munich.

There had been doubts as to whether Asamoah will receive a medal at all as he has featured only three times in European competition for Juventus this season. However, as per regulations of the UEFA Champions League 2012-15 Cycle, Article 5.04 states:

‘Forty gold medals are presented to the winning club, and forty silver medals to the runner-up. Additional medals may not be produced.’

With both finalists being presented with 40 medals, it is highly likely that the former Udinese man was be handed a medal in Berlin.

Asamoah will be hoping to add the Coppa Italia winners medal to his collection at the end of the season.
