English champions Leicester City have rested Riyad Mahrez and Ismal Slimani and six first-team players ahead of their final UEFA Champions League group stage clash against Porto tonight.

The Foxes have already booked their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League, giving manager Claudio Ranieri the luxury of resting them ahead of this coming weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

“If we had to win tomorrow maybe all my players would be here,” said Ranieri.

“But I can choose. Always, I said we have a very good team. There are some players who didn’t play so far, they deserve their chance to show their potential.”

Leicester’s excellent form in the Champions League has been in stark contrast to their performances on the domestic scene, where they are slipping toward the relegation zone.

With the Champions League not due to resume till the new year, Leicester will hope the rest with rejuvenate Mahrez, Slimani and the other omitted from the game tonight.
