Algerian international Sofiane Feghouli struck a late goal as Valencia took a commanding 3-1 advantage in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff tie against Monaco.
Valencia registered the first of four goals recorded just four minutes into the game as Feghouli turned provider for Rodrigo to open the scoring which they held onto till half-time.
Monaco levelled matters a couple of minutes after the interval courtesy of a strike by Pasalic but Parejo restored the lead on the 59th minute before a corner found its way to Sofiane Feghouli who sent a powerful shot from outside the area to put his side 3-1 up and in good position to eliminate Monaco.
It was Feghouli’s 15th appearance in Europe’s elite competition in a Valencia shirt and he has three goals to his credit. Though they are a step ahead of Monaco, Valencia have to put up a resilient display to ensure their progression to the next stage next week.
