Angolan striker Manucho Conçlaves was a bright spot in what was a frustrating weekend for African players in The Spanish La Liga.

Below is Africa Football Shop‘s comprehensive round-up of how Africans fared in La Liga’s game week 29.


Manucho netted the winner as Rayo Vallecano fought back from a goal down to beat Eibar. Both Abdoulaye Ba and Mohammed Fatau featured for Los Vallecanos.

Mehdi Lacer played 90 minutes for Getafe who recovered from last weeks 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid to beat Deportivo La Coruña 2-1 at the Coliseum Alfonso Pèrez. There was no Papa Diawara in the Getafe team.

Stèphane M’bia was not part of the Sevilla team that won 2-0 at the expense of Athletic Bilbao who fielded Spanish-born Ghanaian midfielder Iñaki Williams.

Carlos Kameni, Nordin Amrabat and Arthur Boka had a frustrating time with Malaga as Los Boquerones were held 1-1 by David Moyes’ Real Sociedad at La Rosaleda.

Cape Verde’s Heldon Ramos and Algeria’s Nabil Ghilas came on as substitutes in 64th and 46th minute respectively for Cordoba in their 0-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid. Cameroon midfielder Patrick Ekeng failed to make Cordoba’s first team squad for the game.

Sofiane Feghouli had a quite game for Valencia who failed to take advantage of home court, as they played out to a goalless draw against visiting Villarreal. Ivorian defender Eric Bailly lasted the entire duration but Nigerian striker Ike Uche was not part of the Yellow Submarine team.

Morocco’s Youssef El-Arabi set up Robert Ibañez to score Granada’s only goal in a 9-1 drubbing at Real Madrid. Allan Nyom sat on the bench for Granada.

Ramon Azeez, Thievy Bifouma and Jonathan Zongo were in action for Almeria who suffered a 1-4 loss at home to a Levante side which featured Mohammed Sissoko, Kalu Uche and Mozambique’s Simão Junior.

However, Nabil El-zhar and Papakouli Diop were unused substitutes for Levante while Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey failed to make Almeria’s squad.

Cape Verdean Garry Mendes Rodrigues entered proceedings with 17 minutes of the game remaining helping Elche to secure an important away point against Espanyol.
